Best crypto exchanges in India (2026): FIU-IND registered only

Crypto exchange rules in India, checked 26 October 2026

Only FIU-IND-registered platforms appear on this page. Any crypto platform that serves users in India must register with the Financial Intelligence Unit, FIU-IND, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. This applies to offshore platforms too, and it has applied since March 2023. FIU-IND does not publish a full list of registered platforms. The government said 50 providers had registered by 1 October 2025.

How this page is ordered. The ranking below shows the 4 exchanges we cover that hold FIU-IND registration for India, ordered by CoinGecko trust rank, the same rank we use on every ranking page. Licence status comes first: an exchange that is not on the register is not listed, whatever its size and whether or not it is a partner. The licensed entity, the regulator and the date for each one are in the licence record lower on this page. If you want a shortlist by fees and features instead, the Exchange Finder applies the same licence rule.

Blocked and flagged platforms. On 28 December 2023 FIU-IND named nine offshore exchanges and asked for their websites to be blocked: Binance, KuCoin, Huobi (now HTX), Kraken, Gate.io, Bittrex, Bitstamp, MEXC and Bitfinex (PIB). In October 2025 it sent notices to 25 more, including CEX.IO and BingX. On 9 September 2026 it acted against 15 more, including Toobit, XT.com, WhiteBIT, DigiFinex and LATOKEN. Binance and KuCoin registered in 2024, Bybit and Coinbase in 2025; OKX ended its services in India in 2024. Ask any other platform for its FIU-IND registration before you deposit.

How to check any platform yourself: ask for the FIU-IND registration number and check it against the FIU-IND notices, because the unit publishes enforcement actions but no public register.

How We Pick These Exchanges

Licence first. This page lists only the 4 exchanges we cover that hold FIU-IND registration for India, in CoinGecko trust-rank order. An exchange that is not on the register is left out whatever its size, and whether or not it is a partner. The licence record for each one is in the table lower on this page.

The exchanges on this page are chosen and ranked using ExchangeCatalogue’s independent review framework – we look at security, regulation, fees, products, user experience, and overall fit for this specific use case or region.

Some platforms may be our partners, but no exchange can pay to change its score or ranking. Sponsorship can affect visibility (for example, “featured” labels), not how we rate risk or quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

When you compare platforms, check how they follow local rules, who runs them, and how they protect funds. Review the coin list, INR deposit and withdrawal options, and total costs. Look at support hours, complaint handling, and outage history. Read the terms on custody and account holds. Test the app and web flow. Start small and try a deposit and a withdrawal. Pick tools that fit your needs and risk comfort. This page is general info, not advice.

Crypto is not legal tender in India. Many people buy and sell it through platforms that run identity checks and monitor activity. Rules and enforcement can change, and banks or payment partners may set their own policies. Expect account verification, record keeping, and screening for fraud and crime. Always read the terms and keep your own records. For guidance on your situation, speak with a qualified professional. This is general information only.

Common costs include trading fees or spreads, INR deposit and withdrawal charges, and blockchain network fees for sending coins. You may also see conversion charges when you switch between assets or currencies. Some platforms charge for certain payment methods or for account features. Total cost depends on your use, so review the fee page before you start. Small test transactions can help you understand how fees apply in practice.

Most platforms ask you to verify your identity before you add or withdraw INR. You then link a bank account in your name and fund by bank transfer or other local methods. Withdrawals usually return to the same account. Processing time and charges can vary by bank and platform. Name mismatches can delay funds. Plan around bank hours and maintenance. If a transfer fails, contact support and keep the payment reference.

Focus on account security and custody. Use a strong password and multi-factor authentication. Turn on login and device alerts. Use withdrawal address allowlists and time locks when offered. Look for clear policies on cold storage and independent reviews or audits. Check whether the platform publishes wallet details or other proof of reserves methods. Learn how the team reports and fixes incidents. Beware of phishing. Use unique emails and keep software up to date.

Yes, most platforms let you withdraw coins to your own wallet. Confirm the asset and the network match your wallet. Some assets need a memo or tag. Check limits and network fees before you send. On-chain transfers are final, and a wrong address can lead to loss. Many users first send a small test amount, then the rest. Keep your recovery phrase offline and private, and never share it with anyone.

Of the exchanges we cover, Binance, Bybit, Coinbase and KuCoin hold FIU-IND registration for India on 26 October 2026. The ranking on this page shows them in trust-rank order, and the licence record lists the entity, the regulator and the date for each one. Other licensed firms exist that we do not review yet; the register linked in the rules block at the top of this page has the full list.

Yes. Binance was one of the nine offshore exchanges FIU-IND named on 28 December 2023, and it registered with FIU-IND in 2024 after paying a penalty of 18.82 crore rupees. It appears on this page as a registered platform; the 30 percent tax and the 1 percent TDS apply to trades on it like anywhere else.

FIU-IND asks the government to block the websites and apps of platforms that do not register, as it did in December 2023, October 2025 and September 2026, and the platform can be fined. You keep your tax duties either way, and withdrawing from a blocked platform can become slow or impossible.

Using a crypto exchange in India: what to know

Paying in Indian rupee (INR)

Rupee deposits run through UPI, IMPS or NEFT bank transfers on the platforms that hold a local banking relationship, or through peer-to-peer markets; banks sometimes refuse transfers to crypto platforms. English and Hindi support is common on the platforms that serve India. Deposit limits and processing times depend on the method and on your verification level, and the name on your bank account must match the name on your exchange account.

What FIU-IND registration gives you, and what it does not

FIU-IND registration means the platform reports to the unit and runs identity checks under the anti money laundering law. It is not a licence that guarantees the platform, and India has no deposit protection for crypto.

Tax at a glance

India taxes gains on virtual digital assets at a flat 30 percent plus surcharge and cess, with no set-off of losses, and deducts 1 percent TDS on most transfers; from 1 April 2026 platforms also report transactions to the tax department. The authority is the Income Tax Department. Rules change often, so confirm the current rate and your reporting duties before you file. This is general information, not tax advice.
