How We Pick These Exchanges

The exchanges on this page are chosen and ranked using ExchangeCatalogue’s independent review framework – we look at security, regulation, fees, products, user experience, and overall fit for this specific use case or region.

Some platforms may be our partners, but no exchange can pay to change its score or ranking. Sponsorship can affect visibility (for example, “featured” labels), not how we rate risk or quality.

This page is for information only and is not financial or investment advice. Always do your own research.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s a platform that lets buyers and sellers trade crypto directly with each other. Instead of a company holding your funds, trades happen between users, with the exchange providing the space and tools.

Users post buy or sell offers with their chosen payment method. When another user accepts, the crypto is placed in escrow until payment is confirmed, and then the trade is completed.

They can be safe if you use trusted platforms with escrow protection. Still, you’re dealing directly with people, so it’s important to check reviews, follow rules, and avoid suspicious offers.

P2P exchanges give you more payment options and allow global access. You can often find better rates and trade methods that centralized exchanges don’t support.

Most P2P exchanges charge low trading fees, but costs can still vary. Some payment methods add extra charges, and sellers may set higher prices to cover their risks.

Some P2P platforms let you trade with little or no identity checks, but many now follow regulations. Full anonymity is becoming rare, especially for larger trades.

Escrow helps protect you. If a buyer or seller doesn’t complete their side, the platform holds the crypto until the issue is resolved. Support teams can step in to settle disputes.

They can work for beginners, but you need to be careful. Reading offers, spotting scams, and handling payments takes some practice. Many start on centralized exchanges before moving to P2P.

How peer to peer crypto trading works

On a peer to peer, or P2P, market you trade with another person, not with the exchange. The seller lists a price and the payment methods they accept, such as a bank transfer, a mobile wallet or cash. The exchange holds the seller's coins in escrow. You pay the seller directly. Once the seller confirms, the escrow releases the coins to you. The exchange charges the seller a small fee or nothing at all.

P2P markets matter most where cards and bank rails to exchanges are blocked or expensive. That is why they are busiest in Nigeria, Kenya, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Argentina and Türkiye. It is also why local payment methods such as M-Pesa, UPI, PIX and local bank transfers appear on the offers.

The scams to watch for

The escrow protects the coins, not the cash. The common tricks all work on the cash side. A buyer sends a fake payment screenshot and asks you to release early. A buyer pays from a stolen bank account and the bank later reverses the payment, after you have released the coins. A seller asks you to pay outside the platform for a better rate, then vanishes. Someone on a chat app offers to trade off the platform. The rule that stops all of them is simple. Never release coins before the money is in your account, and never trade outside the exchange's escrow.

Check the counterparty's completed trade count and completion rate, keep the trade inside the platform chat, and start with a small amount with any new counterparty.

Which exchanges run P2P markets

The exchanges on this list run their own P2P markets with escrow, and each profile shows the countries and payment methods it supports. Binance P2P, Bybit P2P, OKX P2P, KuCoin P2P, Bitget P2P and HTX P2P are the largest by number of offers. Pure P2P platforms such as Paxful, noones and Hodl Hodl work the same way without a full exchange behind them.
