Coinbase Derivatives, the futures side of Coinbase

Coinbase Derivatives is a futures exchange regulated by the CFTC. Coinbase bought it in 2022, when it was called FairX. It lists nano bitcoin futures, one hundredth of a bitcoin per contract, and nano ether futures, one tenth of an ether. US retail customers have traded them on Coinbase since November 2023. Since May 2025 the futures trade all day, every day.

On 21 July 2025 Coinbase added perpetual-style futures for US customers through Coinbase Financial Markets, its futures broker. The contracts expire after five years instead of never. That is how they fit US rules. They offer up to 10x leverage. Outside the US, Coinbase International Exchange offers true perpetual futures. On 10 February 2026 Interactive Brokers added Coinbase Derivatives futures to its platform, so you can also trade them from a futures broker.

Futures use leverage. A 10% move against you at 10x wipes out your margin. Check the contract size and the margin rules on the Coinbase Derivatives page before you trade. Our margin and leverage exchanges list compares the leverage each exchange offers and where it is allowed.
